Team Competition

Home

Each run of the team level requires two dog/handler pairs. A pair will always refer to one dog and one handler.
The dog/handler pair can compete in Team Levels for Novice Team, Advanced Team, Excellent Team, Versatility Team and Versatility Excellent Team. The title designations shall appear

CRNT CARO Rally Novice Team
CRAT CARO Rally Advanced Team
CRXT CARO Rally Excellent Team
CRVT CARO Rally Versatility Team
CRVXT CARO Rally Versatility Excellent Team

1. There is no distinction between A and B in the Team levels. Both A and B level dogs may compete together in TEAM
2. Handlers may enter their teammate’s name on the trial entry form, and the trial secretary will match lone handlers together.
If there is an odd number of pairs, a bye-pair will be used. This bye-pair may be a volunteer pair not originally entered in the team level, or one pair may run a second time. If a pair runs a second time, it must run a different section of the course than it ran previously and is not eligible to qualify on the second run.
3. Dogs must have earned their individual title at each level before entering Team except at the Novice Level. For example, a dog need not have earned their RN title before entering Rally Team Novice. Dog/handler pairs may compete concurrently for their C level individual titles and Team titles. (See 17 - 19 below regarding bye dogs).
4. Team qualifying scores do not count towards C Level titles.
5. The minimum ring size for team must be 30 X 50 (or the equivalent 1500 square feet) No exceptions will be granted.
6. Three qualifying scores of 180 are required from 2 different judges in order to complete the title. The two pairs are scored as a whole, with the deductions accumulated by one pair added to those by the second pair. If the total number of points deducted is more than 20, the team does not qualify.
7. Maximum course time is 3 minutes.
8. Courses may be nested with the regular classes, but must be substantially different, so as to not provide an advantage to any competitor entering the regular class. In orderfor each side of the team course to be substantially different, at least 50% of the stations for each team must be changed. The physical location of the stations may remain the same to facilitate quick course changes.
9. Sides will be decided before the walk through. Handlers are free to choose the sides they wish to run.
10. Walk through times are the same as Stream C. One 2 minutes walk through for each 10-12 teams of dog/handler pairs. E.g. If 10 teams of dog/handler pairs, one 2 minute walk through. If 13-20, TWO separate walk through groups to be divided equally. E.g. 16 pairs of dog/handlers would have two groups of 8 paired teams.
11. All Team courses will have 20 stations including Start and Finish. Each dog/handler pair will complete 10 stations.
12. Pair 1 will complete stations 1 through 10. Pair 2 will complete stations 11 through 20.
13. Both dogs will enter the ring at the same time on leash. For Novice, both pairs will be on leash for the entire course.
Dog/handler pair 1 will wait at the Start while Pair 2 proceeds to Station 11. The ring steward will bring the leash from the start to Station 10 for Pair 1. This will be done before the beginning of the run.
Pair 2 may carry their leash in a concealed manner to the finish as they complete stations 11 through 20, may leave a second leash at the Finish sign, or may wait at the Finish sign for a steward to bring them their leash.
14. Dog/handler Pair 1’s dog MUST be leashed at Station 10 and the station requirements completed before Pair 2 may begin Station 11.
15. The course shall be designed so that Station 10 is one which finishes with the dog in a stationary position (See Appendix N). Station 11 may be any exercise and the 2nd team must wait approximately 3 feet from station 11 and the two stations must be a minimum of 15 feet apart. Judges should consider the path of the working dog passing the waiting dog re face to face passing of teams.
16. Judging at all levels will be the same as those outlined in the General Handbook.
17 Bye dog paired in a Novice Team may compete for their Advanced Team title at the same trial if they have their Advanced title. Bye dogs paired in an Advanced Team may be competing for their Excellent Team at the same trial if they have their Excellent title. Bye dogs competing in Excellent Team may be competing for their Versatility team at the same trial if they have their Versatility title. Bye dogs competing in Versatility Team may be competing for their Versatility Excellent team at the same trial if they have their Versatility Excellent title.
18 Should the BYE dog achieve a TEAM title at a higher level at the same trial, he/she may still be a BYE dog for the lower level at that same trial
19. Dogs achieving their Novice-Advanced-Excellent or Versatility titles, may compete in Team at the level in which they have just qualified at the same trial.
