Hosting a Trial

NEW: Effective 1 August 2026, trial application fees will be non-refundable. In the unlikely event that a club encounters extenuating circumstances, they may contact Trial Approvals to discuss the potential for reasonable accommodations.

Hosting a CARO trial is a great way to bring the sport of Rally Obedience to your area while supporting local competitors and fostering the inclusive, welcoming spirit that CARO is known for.

The individual or organizations applying to host the trial must provide the email of a professional member (in good standing) who/which will assume all responsibility for reports, payments and fines.

What to Consider Before Hosting

Planning Timeline

The trial application must be submitted at least 6 weeks prior for Rally or Combination trials and 3 weeks prior for Working-only trials.

Location Considerations

Check the calendar if other CARO trials are scheduled within 250km of your chosen weekend

If you haven’t hosted a CARO trial before, make sure your venue/facility meets the requirements.

  • The venue must have non-slippery floors
  • Adequate space. Minimum requirements:
        – 1,500 sq ft for Rally,
        – 900 sq ft for Working (3 or fewer exercises), or
        – 1,500 sq ft for Working (4+ exercises)
Pricing
  • Trial Application Fee: $1.25 per round, with a minimum charge of $15 (plus applicable GST/HST).
  • Trial Record Fee: Upon completion of your trial, the Trial Record Fee Submission Form must be completed and submitted. A fee of $2 per run applies (FEO runs are excluded). Trials with 24 or fewer entries are exempt from this fee; however, the form must still be submitted.
  • Entry Fees: Trial hosts may set their own entry fees based on local expenses and regional customs.
Deadlines
  • Trial records must be emailed to dataentry@canadianrallyo.ca within 14 days of the trial.
  • Trial payments are due within 7 days of receiving confirmation from Data Entry.
Judge Availability

CARO recommends securing a judge before you send in your trial application.

You can find more details in the Trial Officials Guide under the Handbook/Signs menu, or you can reach out to your Regional Director to help you get started on your trial host journey.
