Judges, we’re pleased to share three updates that bring more clarity and consistency to course maps and course design. These updates are applied to any maps submitted after July 4, 2026.
1. Start and Finish icons on course maps
- In-person trials: Use either a 1 or an S for the Start sign icon, and either a number or an F for the Finish sign icon.
- Virtual Trials: Use numbers only for all station signs.
2. Spiral exits
Spiral exits are set at 90 degrees from the point of entry.
3. Cone exercises
Cone exercises are now entered straight on, as shown on the sign graphic.

To make sure you’re working from the most up-to-date requirements, please download a new copy of the Course Design Checklist each time you design courses. You’ll find it on our website under Host/Judges > Judges Forms/Software.
